Big 9 Roots Festival

Dates: October 5, 2019

We are taking you back to the days when ML King Blvd was referred to as “The Big 9” and it was alive with business, music, food, dancing, revelry and where history was made.

On Saturday, October 5, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center and the Mary Walker Historical and Educational Foundation will host the Big 9 Roots Festival along MLK Boulevard from 11 am until 11 pm. This one-day event is presented by Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union and has been developed to highlight and preserve Chattanooga’s rich African American history, and to honor those who have made history and are continuing to make history. As you know, the MLK area has become a more diverse community, and as we embrace this change, we don’t have to lose its phenomenal history.
