In November 2014, TechTown Foundation, Inc. (“TechTown”) launched with the mission of leveling the playing field for all young people by providing access to an unique technology and entrepreneurial learning center; career awareness of the unlimited possibilities in technology fields; and 21st century workforce training via problem-based learning. TechTown’s flagship is in the heart of downtown Chattanooga featuring 23,000 square feet of space dedicated to robotics, circuitry, software development (coding), film and performing arts for young innovators between the ages of seven to seventeen. Chattanooga is a city poised for an economic explosion. It is positioning itself as the Southeast’s foremost innovation center, where the jobs one expects to be available in Silicon Valley are available in a southern city with a high quality of life. Talent is the lifeblood of every innovation center and our task at TechTown is to prepare young people for post-secondary success, be it higher education or a highly-skilled technology job right out of high school.
